Brighter Planet is speeding the transition to a sustainable future through the development of carbon calculation and mitigation tools for businesses and consumers. They've got the science and the tech covered, so they tapped us to help with a number of campaigns to promote climate awareness.
We began with the 350 Challenge, a campaign in association with our friends at 350.org to encourage bloggers to identify as supporters of the fight against climate change by placing a badge on their site. The original goal of 350 bloggers was shattered in under a month, and the total number of participants has risen to 4000.
Later, we celebrated the winter holidays with the One Day campaign, which gave people the opportunity to spread holiday cheer by giving the gift of carbon neutrality for one day. Thousands of carbon offsets were gifted through the campaign microsite, representing close to 1 million pounds of emissions offset – that's the equivalent of taking 25,000 cars off the road for a day.
In anticipation of Earth Day, we then shifted gears to build a Twitter campaign that would position Brighter Planet at the center of the climate conversation – and develop relationships with new constituents seeking to reduce their impact. Tapping Twitter's swelling user base, we created a campaign hub for tips and environmental news called EarthTweet.com. With its accompanying hashtag #earthtweet, the campaign exploded with Twitterers organizing and conversing in real time and re-promoting the campaign with badges, widgets and custom avatars.
